William Bethea5 was the son of "DEVIL" John Bethea4  William had 3 brothers,  John Bethea5 , Tristram Bethea5 , Cade Bethea5 and 4 sisters,  Elizabeth (Bethea) Walter5 , Sarah Bethea5 ,and  Martha Bethea5 . William Bethea was a plantation owner near Dillon, SC. and is said to had employed over 1000 farm workers cultivating cotton and other crops. Married  Sara Hargrove and had 6 children as follows:

1) Thomas Clinton Bethea6, married Ester Jane Simpson
2) Cade W. Bethea6  
3) Elizabeth Bethea6, m. (1) William Proctor (2) James Roper. 
4) Ann Bethea6, married Rev. Louis Scarborough.
5) Martha A. Bethea6, married Richard A. Shearwood.
6) Harriet Bethea6, married Samuel J. Proctor.

Second wife was Olivia Pearce. They had 6 children as follows:
